Lukashenko names main requirements for Quality Mark candidates

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) - Goods that will seek to obtain the State Quality Mark must be flawless and competitive in international markets, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he toured an exposition in the Palace of Independence on 5 January. The exhibition was prepared for the head of state’s meeting to discuss quality improvement in 2024, which has been declared the Year of Quality in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The Quality Mark: Tradition of the Past and Present exhibition featured the products of the country’s best enterprises that preserved high quality since the Soviet Union times. The exposition showcased various products of domestic brands - from food industry to mechanical engineering. The samples could be divided into two categories - those that were awarded the Quality Mark of the USSR and the products that seek the State Quality Mark of the Republic of Belarus in 2024. For example, MAZ and MTZ vehicles - MAZ-53352 truck and MTZ tractor - were among the first to receive the quality mark in the Soviet times. These enterprises are now offering new products to be labeled with Belarus’ Quality Mark. Among the applicants are the engines of Minsk Motor Plant, Horizont TV sets, Gomselmash harvesters, Kommunarka confectionery products, and Kamvol fabrics.

Aleksandr Lukashenko studied the exposition, talked to the representatives of the government and the enterprises displayed at the exhibition. It was noted that the list of products that can apply for the State Quality Mark is open, but first both current and future applicants will have to confirm that their products are really worthy of such an assessment. This requirement has been repeatedly emphasized by the head of state. “BelAZ, MTZ, MAZ and others cannot but have a quality mark for some of their goods. But this product must be unique, it must be competitive in international markets,” he said. “The equipment must be flawless. We will check its quality. We are not going to stamp a quality mark on every cab, hood or glass of yours, otherwise we will disgrace the country.”
