Lukashenko: Lessons from 2020 suggest that power needs a firm grip

Lukashenko: Lessons from 2020 suggest that power needs a firm grip

MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) –  Power will slip away from those who have a loose grip, lessons from 2020 have been learned, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the 2025 election, BelTA has learned.

“Everyone should keep in mind that we have learned our lessons from these years and we have come to realize that power cannot be kept with a loose grip. Thus, we will not ease our grip. We have drawn conclusions from 2020. Therefore, we will act in the way that our country and our people need us to act,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

He noted that the head of the Central Election Commission is always at the forefront during the election period, thus this person should get the necessary assistance and support. “I ask you to pay heed to him. We should help him with everything he asks for. But we should stay away when things can be handled without our interference. There is no need for this. Thus, we will be less likely to be reproached for election meddling,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
