Lukashenko: It is important to stand firm on our land today

MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) - Today, as the world is growing more aggressive, it is very important to stand firm on our land, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the ceremony to present the Spiritual Revival Awards, prizes to art luminaries and the Belarusian Sports Olympus Awards in Minsk on 12 January, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko called today's awardees the pride of the nation. According to him, such people write history. "Good deeds and undertakings like yours remain in the memory of the people, give future generations a moral and spiritual guide, lead to new highs. Thus, the chronicle of Belarus continues," the President said.

“Today, when the world is becoming more aggressive, it is especially important to stand firm on our land, to remember that the Belarusians lived here for centuries and will continue living here, to keep in touch with the generations that came before us, to understand that we have our own way. It was started by great people and will be continued by us,” the president said. “Knowing what trials our ancestors went through, how heroically they defended our land in wars, how, having no statehood, they saved the cultural traditions and spiritual values, we see the main thing.”

Belarus’ national cultural relics - a replica of the Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk and the recently recreated Turov Cross - were brought to the stage of the Palace of the Republic during the ceremony. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted the symbolism of the moment. "May the restored Turov Cross become another unique shrine, along with the previously revived Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, and keep us safe along the way," he said.
