MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – It is important to perfect Belarusian science instead of reforming it. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement in his speech during the government conference held in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 7 April to discuss problems and prospects of developing Belarusian science, BelTA has learned.
“If we see that the way Belarusian science is run is subpar, let us — the older generation, who have created this science, and the younger generation, to whom the future of science belongs — make decisions,” stressed the head of state. “If it is an anachronism, if the country doesn’t need this system now, if it is unacceptable, we should make the relevant decisions. We cannot pretend nothing is going on.”
Participants of the conference are expected to discuss how the operation of Belarusian science will be managed in the future. Alexander Lukashenko said he believes it is necessary to advance without destroying anything. The president believes that instead of reforms it is necessary to improve upon the existing scientific accomplishments.
