MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - I am ready to fight for what has been created in Belarus for the past quarter of a century, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview to Belarusian and foreign political observers in Minsk on 13 November, BelTA has learned.
"They [the European Union] have long tried to figure out what to do with Lukashenko. They always try something against me. They should not. Neither against Lukashenko, nor Putin, nor Tokayev and Nazarbayev, nor Dodon, and even Zelensky,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. "We were elected by the people. This is the zone of attention and interest of the Belarusian people, if we talk about Lukashenko. They will not be able to do anything against Lukashenko."
The president noted that he has enough political experience, that he had been under European sanctions for a long time. Recently they imposed them again. “You can do something against a man in my position only if he is caught embezzling, if he has accumulated wealth and keeps it outside his country. If a politician has billions (I won't name names) and keeps them offshore, it is very easy to control him,” the head of state said.
“There is nothing they can use against me. Forgive my indiscretion, but I am very devoted to my people and to my country. I came from the opposition to the government in very difficult times, when nationalism was on a rampage in Belarus. These are the ancestors of those who are fanning tensions inside the country today, on whom the external forces rely in Belarus today. Therefore, it is useless to try to control Lukashenko: there is nothing they can use against me," the president said. "I'm not going to give up and I won't kneel, even if I'm left alone. I have told my associates and all those who stand firm today defending Belarus: even if I am left alone, I will fight for what I have created for the past quarter of a century with my own hands.”
