Lukashenko describes Belarus-Russia allied relations as unmatched

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia have built the closest allied relations the world has ever known, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with the senior officials of the Council of Ministers in Minsk on 18 January, BelTA has learned.

"Russia and Belarus are sovereign and independent states," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We proceed from this when making certain decisions. And as you can see, we have built the closest allied relations the world has ever known."

The president called to continuously work to improve the relations between the two countries, no matter how good they are. But while introducing any changes and innovations, it is important to remember about sovereignty and independence. "The system is common, similar, but these are two sovereign, independent states," he said.

As for some speculations, including in the media, that Belarus is allegedly losing its independence, the president said that they are absolutely groundless. "There are all sorts of speculations (I just read a digest where they cry about Belarus losing sovereignty)... We are losing nothing. You see that in this sovereign territory, which belongs to our people, only we make decisions and we act in our own interests," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
