Lukashenko criticizes huge military spendings in the world

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) –  Despite the need to save millions of people from famine, huge amounts of money are still spent in the world primarily on weapons, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he accepted credentials of ambassadors of foreign countries in Minsk on 30 September, BelTA has learned.

"Politicians often talk about the food crisis today. In terms of price, grain is becoming gold. Not everyone can afford it. Billions of dollars are easily spent on weapons while millions go without food, primarily the elderly and children in poor countries. Someone needs a big conflict again, and, perhaps, an operation to cover up what some high and mighties are doing in the world," the Belarusian leader emphasized.

He recalled that Belarus not only ensures its food security but can also act as its donor. "We are ready to resume cooperation in this vital area, especially in terms of supply of food and mineral fertilizers," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. "All that is needed is the political will of the ruling elite of the West."

The head of state recalled that he recently met with the Russian president and that they had a through discussion of this problem. "Both Belarus and Russia have an unprecedented harvest this year. As President Putin told me, they are ready to supply huge amounts of grain, wheat above all, to the international market. Open the ports, open the door and we will bring you food and grain. Open it!" the Belarusian president said.
