MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko called for concerted efforts of people, the State and the Church to restore cultural and historical monuments as he met with the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church on 22 September, BelTA has learned.
“The Church has always inspired architects to create architectural masterpieces. Many churches in Belarus are monuments of historical and cultural value. Today they need special care. The State has been providing assistance with their restoration for many years. Meanwhile, ministers of religion can address people at their local level and ask them to contribute to the restoration of what has been lost and destroyed. Then, they will value it more,” the Belarusian leader believes.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that the State and the Church will be working to strengthen cooperation in different fields. “We should engage people in social activities for the benefit of the country, promote patriotism and civic responsibility,” the Belarusian head of state said.
