Lukashenko: Belarusian farmers could do better if properly organized

MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Belarusian agricultural companies could achieve better results with proper organization and discipline, BelTA learned from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 29 December.

The head of state said: “It was an extreme year. Honestly speaking, I don’t even remember a year like that. It was good on the whole but extreme at the same time. We have not had a year like that before. Since we’ve never had one, we were not totally ready for it. We could use better organization and discipline. These areas represent a huge reserve for agriculture.”

The president was convinced that no market economy and no changes can provide an impulse to the development of this branch of the national economy. “Human labor and proper organization have no substitutes. This is why if we enforce good discipline in the countryside as a whole, not only in agribusiness, if we get mobilized, we will achieve much better results in the future,” said the head of state. “Money, subsidies, or machines will not achieve that since we have those in abundance. If we properly organize things, we will get results.”

Yet Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that Belarusian agricultural companies had secured the main goal by taking care of the country’s food security. “We have set aside reserves and we have produced enough food and forage for ourselves,” noted the president.
