MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Participants of the Christmas tournament have helped Belarus obtain the right to host the 2021 ice hockey world championship. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the ceremony held on 4 January to open the 14th international Christmas amateur ice hockey tournament and the national children and youth ice hockey tournament Golden Puck, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko said: “Just recently the entire country rejoiced at hearing the International Ice Hockey Federation’s decision to arrange an ice hockey world championship in Belarus in 2021. It would have been impossible without those guys and without the sport functionaries, who have come to Minsk for the Christmas tournament.”
Alexander Lukashenko believes Belarus had accomplished the impossible by securing the right to once again host an ice hockey world championship.
