Lukashenko: Belarus will adopt Russia’s best practices in education

SOCHI, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in Russia’s best practices in education. They will be also used to develop the efficient national system of personnel training, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Russia President Vladimir Putin to discuss humanitarian cooperation on 15 February, BelTA has learned.

The meeting took place at Sirius Education Center in Sochi. The center’s goal is to reveal talents at an early age, develop them and provide further professional support to talented children in art, sport, natural sciences and technical creativity.

“Today we are ready to open a technology park similar to Sirius,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “The experience of Sirius in revealing talents is very important for us. Of course, it is also a good example in terms of programs, education and accommodation for young people. Russia has gone a very interesting path, and this path is important for us. We will use it as an example. We should adopt all the best practices that we can see here.”

The head of state remarked that Belarusian citizens also study in Sirius, and their experience should be also used to develop a similar technology park in Belarus. “Of course, it should not be closed for Russians,” the president said.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is much better when talented young people do not go abroad and stay in their native countries.
On the whole, he remarked that the trade and economic dimension often comes to the forefront in the Belarusian-Russian relations, while the humanitarian field stands aside. “But it does not mean that we do not have achievements in this field,” he said.

The president emphasized that Belarusians and Russians take an active part in various cultural, sports and other events on the territory of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by the ministers of sport, education and culture of the two countries.

During the visit to Sirius Education Center the heads of state walked around of the education center, toured the exposition of creative works, talked to students among whom are citizens of Belarus. In particular, these are Ilya Pchelintsev from Moscow State University and Andrei Chausov from ITMO University who took part in the first specialized accelerator workshop which was organized by Yandex and Sirius for students. Students told the presidents about their projects and shared impressions from education.
