Lukashenko: Belarus, Russia weather external pressure, grow stronger

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) - Unprecedented external pressure has become a serious test for the relations between Belarus and Russia, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State on 4 November, BelTA has learned.

“The unprecedented external pressure has become a serious test for the relations between our countries. It is safe to say that we have passed this test. Moreover, we are growing stronger,” stressed Aleksandr Lukashenko.

According to the head of state, economic statistics testify to the fact. In January-September 2021 the trade in the Union State increased by more than a third and reached $28 billion.

“Our foreign policy interaction is multipronged. Belarus and Russia speak with one voice on practically all contemporary issues at various international platforms,” the president said.

The countries also cooperate closely in defense. “As the recent events have shown, the regional grouping of troops of the Union State is a reliable security shield not only for our countries but for the entire post-Soviet space. The Russian president and I do not even hide our intentions to strengthen this grouping in the future,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

A separate topic in the Union State development is the protection of the interests of its citizens. The head of state noted that Belarus and Russia had achieved the most tangible results in carrying out a coordinated social policy, ensuring a decent life and free development of people. Citizens of both countries have equal rights in work, recreation, healthcare and education.
