Lukashenko: Belarus reverses recent negative trends

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus has overcome the negative trends of recent years, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his State of the Nation Address on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“Frankly speaking, one year ago we were projecting more modest results than the ones we received. Thanks to the efficiency that we worked as a country and the hard work of Belarusian people, we have reaped positive results. We seem to have overcome the recent negative trends by joint efforts,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The rate of inflation is low, the export is recovering, the structure of balance of payments is improving in Belarus. “We spend as much as we earn. We have not turned on the money printing machine to solve the problems. Budgetary funds are spent only on target programs and specific tasks, which helps us pursue a balanced exchange rate policy. In terms of the GDP growth we are recovering from the two-year recession,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

“The main thing now is to make the positive changes irreversible. It is the cornerstone of economic policy. It is something that will give us the opportunity to preserve the economic stability and, hence, peace and order in the society,” Alexander Lukashenko added.
