Lukashenko: Belarus is set to tackle issues in relations with Iran

QINGDAO, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus is determined to deal with issues in relations with Iran, Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko made this statement as he met with President of Iran Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Qingdao on 9 June, BelTA has learnt.

“Our relations do not only get better every year, but we already have a history of relations,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President noted that he had been to Iran several times before and he knows what problems the country faced and what difficulties prevail in Belarus-Iran relations. “We are fully determined to deal with these issues,” Alexander Lukashenko noted. Belarus is ready to go as far in the bilateral cooperation as Iran wants it, the Belarusian head of state added.

Hassan Rouhani spoke of his previous meeting with Alexander Lukashenko that also took place on the sidelines of the SCO Summit that was held in Ufa in 2015. “After that I instructed the industry minister to go to Belarus to discuss the future of the bilateral relations and to resolve all issues. I believe that we still have a long way to go to reach the optimal level of relations, however today our relations are much better than before,” the Iranian leader emphasized.
