MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus is going to live through a difficult time, as the election campaign is always a battlefield, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he announced new appointments on 26 September, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about the key tasks for local government leaders in the coming period, the head of state emphasized that they should not be afraid of anyone in their country. "You should not have any doubts: we will make it through. We will do everything that we should. People believe us, trust us, and we must live up to their expectations," the president emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the country is approaching a difficult time of the election campaign: "The election campaign is always a battlefield. Some say Belarus cleared up the political landscape and pushed [some people] into exile," the president said. "It is their choice. Let them be. But we should not let our guard down. Certainly, the country is approaching the upcoming political campaign in a different way than before. "The situation has changed, the time is different. The position of the government has changed too," the head of state pointed out. "But you understand that those on the other side see this too. They are looking for a way in."
The president stressed that he and other officials constantly inform the society about the state of affairs in the country without hiding key facts and decisions. "Our journalists are finally working very effectively, bringing all the information to the society and to you," he said. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Belarusian media are known for objectivity . "We do not need to make up anything or invent something. We have enough facts to prove our point. Everything you see on our major television channels, in the media, on the Internet is true," the head of state said.
However, according to him, those who fled the country are still hatching plans to destabilize the situation in Belarus. "The extreme option [which is left for them] is an armed invasion of the territory of Belarus. This is their extreme option. Why? Because no one gives money for daydreaming. Yes, they are daydreaming there... For 31 years they have been looking for my money abroad but can't find it. Although everything is very simple; everything is in the hands of the United States, our ‘best friends’. If they had found something, they would have made it public a long time ago," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He stressed that the self-exiled opposition are just daydreaming, completely losing both the international and domestic agenda to Belarusian journalists. Their sponsors from the United States also see and understand this, and therefore they begin to demand more decisive actions in exchange for funding.
"Guys, daydreaming is good, go on. This will get this amount of money. More money will be allocated for a more effective struggle, an armed uprising: breaking into the territory as the Ukrainians did in Kursk Oblast, seizing part of the territory, destabilizing the situation in the country," the president gave an example of such demands.
"Therefore, along with harvesting and other economic problems, I have to pay great attention to the defense capability of our country," the head of state stressed.
