MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted the work of doctors who are now on the coronavirus frontline during the state awards ceremony in Minsk on 2 July, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus has demonstrated political sanity and popular wisdom. “Healthcare workers are on the frontline fighting the coronavirus infection today. Our healthcare system did a good job. But we are keeping up the fight although we can say already that we have prevailed. After the final victory over COVID-19, we will meet with our doctors who are on the frontline today,” the president stressed.
The awardees include the military field surgeon Professor Vladimir Korik, who performs unique surgeries to save lives, and Rector of Grodno Medical University Professor Viktor Snezhitsky. The university does not only train highly-qualified specialists but also is also a full-fledged scientific and consulting center.
Among the awardees are representatives of various professions, people who selflessly serve the Motherland. One of them is the head of the 3rd unit of the 1st department of the main directorate for drug control and counter-trafficking of the criminal police at the Internal Affairs Ministry Colonel Aleksandr Vysotsky. In 2019, under his leadership, an international operation was carried out to seize 550kg of heroin, the largest batch in the history of independent Belarus. Criminals tried to deliver the heroin from Afghanistan to the European Union via Belarus. As the president stressed, this operation alone saved tens of thousands of lives not only in Belarus, but also in Europe and Asia.
