Lukashenko: Belarus has enough resources to fight coronavirus

SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 3 April (BelTA) – Belarus has enough material and human resources for the fight against coronavirus, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told reporters in Smolevichi District on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

“We are well-resourced. We have hospital beds in reserve, about 3,000 mechanical ventilators, as well as anesthesia machines that can also be used in extreme cases. I hope we will pull through,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

At the same time the president noted that army doctors were left aside, although there are infectionists and virologists among them. “There are five or six such hospitals in the country. They should get involved. Let them see how civilian doctors work. If needed, they can help and supervise them. This way army doctors will be in the loop and will learn,” the head of state said. In his words, he has already given appropriate instructions to the head of the Belarus President Administration and the state secretary of the Security Council.

“Do we really think that nothing will ever happen in the army? If some military conflict breaks out, they (army doctors) will be the first to respond to it. Therefore, this is a kind of training for them. It means considerable help and control for me,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

However, right now Belarusian doctors are coping with the situation, therefore there are no plans to ask medical students to pitch in. Just additional resources – volunteers, trade unions – are used to help the elderly.
