Lukashenko: Belarus had no reasons for social upheavals, revolutionary sentiments

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) - There were no real reasons for social upheavals and revolutionary sentiments in Belarus, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the 7th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“We have studied the Washington playbook in detail. On our own experience. I have always said: “We need to learn the lessons!”. All this ‘spontaneous self-organization of society’ followed the same scenario, starting from South America, Asia, ending with Kazakhstan, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Moldova and Uzbekistan. The scheme of coups d'etat has not changed for decades. They did not even bother to adapt it to the national specifics of the country, to understand the nation. It is not surprising that this Hollywood show with its merry-go-round election queues, girls with flowers, tea parties with cookies for those hungry and other elements of a spectacle failed in Belarus,” the president said.

“Because there were no real social reasons for unrest and revolutionary sentiments. There were even no revolutionaries! Belarusians have not become super rich, but their living standards have become much better. Today, almost 60% of Belarusians consider themselves to be middle class,” the head of state said. “Well, yes, some got rich and reached for power. Just in the best traditions of the Ukrainian scenario. They were followed by others who had never held anything heavier than a computer mouse or a cell phone in their hands. There were also those who did not immediately understand the situation, succumbed to emotions.”

The president stressed that color revolutions do not arise and win on the bare ground: “Where the people are driven to poverty, and the leaders have their pockets full of ill-gotten gains, it does not take much effort to bring people to the streets and destroy the country. It is enough to remind they of their accounts in foreign banks and the rulers will give up the country themselves. There are plenty of examples: from Haiti to the Philippines.”

“This was all created in Ukraine, too, prior to Volodya Zelensky. He is not the only one to blame for what is happening today. I have seen everything being divided, robbed and stolen there since the first president of Ukraine. Frankly speaking, I warned everyone that it would end badly. New presidents came, and the people hated them just like the previous ones. That is how it has ended,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“They had to spent a lot on Belarus. They had to inject billions of US dollars to ‘make us ready’. We have gained tremendous experience from what happened. We have become a united and mature nation. We have, indeed, become stronger. Back then, in 2020, we took a look at ourselves, our lives and what surrounded us. We assessed what we could lose, saw the true face of both internal and external opponents and enemies,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
