POLOTSK, 8 November (BelTA) – A careful attitude to nature has become Belarus’ national brand. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he delivered a speech during the Vitebsk Oblast harvest festival Dazhynki 2024 in Polotsk on 8 November, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “In pursuit of progress we should not forget about ecology. Particularly here in Vitebsk Oblast which is famed for its protected forests, the cleanest blue lakes, and primordial swamps that generate oxygen. We should not abandon what has become a national brand: a careful attitude to nature. This brand should be promoted by all means and should be skillfully used.”
The president pointed out that while others adopt declarations and organize conferences, Belarusians grow forests, restore the stock of rare animals, support biodiversity, and make organic food.
“We should continue that here, in Vitebsk Oblast. If our soils are not that good but forests keep growing, then we should move the focus of our efforts to Vitebsk Oblast. We should saw, process, build using timber and sell it across the entire world. There are no forests to the south of Ukraine, even to the south of Kiev but everyone wants to live in a comfortable home and eat good food. We can provide that,” the head of state stated.
