Lithuania invited to deal with Belarusian nuclear power plant without discrimination

Lithuania invited to deal with Belarusian nuclear power plant without discrimination

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Energy Ministry suggests that Lithuania should deal with matters relating to the Belarusian nuclear power plant without discrimination, BelTA learned from Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich during the plenary session of the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 9 October.

The official said: “In any case mutual relations should be built by selling and buying on existing and emerging markets, which allow selling and buying electricity openly and directly without discrimination.” The statement was made in response to Lithuania’s decision to change the effective electricity export and import rules in order to prevent Belarusian nuclear power plant electricity from reaching Lithuania.

Viktor Karankevich pointed out that the Belarusian power grid has good connections with other countries. This is why technically the electricity the Belarusian nuclear power plant will generate may be able to reach the Lithuanian market via other countries.
