MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Both economic and political sanctions of the West against Belarus are totally groundless, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told journalists on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

“All CIS member states share Belarus’ position and think that the economic and political sanctions imposed by the West are totally groundless,” Sergei Lebedev said.

He pointed out that Belarus takes an active part in international processes. Moreover, it plays a constructive role.

“Thereby, we call for a speedy lifting of these sanctions. We would be very glad to see this happen,” Sergei Lebedev noted. He added that the CIS Executive Committee is taking concrete steps in this direction, including in its work with diplomatic missions.

“We strongly hope that this positive change will happen in the West. The life itself suggests that these illogical decisions taken several years ago should be cancelled,” Sergei Lebedev stressed.
