MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - Law enforcement cooperation has always been of particular importance in the Belarus-United States relations, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said at a ceremony to sign Belarus-U.S. agreements at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 21 May, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and the United States continue working to expand mutually beneficial law enforcement cooperation in order to address universal problems affecting all the states and nations. Illegal drug production and trafficking was a tragedy of the previous century and is, unfortunately, still a big problem today. It knows no borders, no national or social differences. It spares no one, neither children nor adults, neither the poor nor the rich,” the deputy minister said. Evgeny Shestakov stressed that drug trafficking is a global problem, and only through resolute joint efforts will there be a chance to overcome it. “The efforts to enhance law enforcement cooperation between Belarus and the United States in the fight against drugs are timely and important for everyone,” the deputy minister said.
“I believe that today’s signing of bilateral documents is important. First it demonstrates the mutual interest of Belarus and the United States in cooperation in this important area. It also gives our countries additional opportunities to step up joint efforts to counteract drugs-related crimes,” Evgeny Shestakov said.
