MOSCOW, 15 January (BelTA) – The European Union’s attitude to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) changed for the better over the last year, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov noted at the press conference to review the results of Russian diplomacy in 2017 on 15 January, BelTA informs.
According to the minister, a year ago Brussels avoided admitting any functionality of the EAEU in every possible way. “This was motivated by political and ideological reasons, since even NATO does not want to recognize the CSTO as an organization with which it can hold a dialogue. There was, however, certain progress at some stage too,” Sergei Lavrov remarked. “Anyway, today the EU is making steps towards accepting the reality and is at least ready for a dialogue between the European Commission and the Eurasian Economic Commission on regulatory and technical matters. They concern the practical movement of goods and thus, probably, lay the groundwork for additional measures towards developing cooperation,” he added.
“This bottom-up approach can also be an option,” Sergei Lavrov summarized.
