MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – We welcome the positive progress in the relations between the EU and Belarus, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis said as he met with Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. This information has been posted on the official website of the President of Latvia.
“Raimonds Vejonis said that Latvia welcomes the good neighborly relations and bilateral cooperation with Belarus, especially economic ties and cross-border cooperation. He also expressed support for starting the negotiations on a cooperation agreement between the EU and Belarus,” the press service noted.
During the meeting, the President reiterated that his country is interested in developing bilateral ties with Belarus. Particularly promising is cooperation in transport and transit, he noted.
According to Raimonds Vejonis, Latvia is interested in signing a treaty with Belarus on visa facilitation and readmission, partnership agreements of mobility between the European Union and Belarus. In addition, the Baltic country supports the cooperation of Belarus with the international financial institutions and the negotiations on its accession to the WTO.
