MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Spain plan to sign several documents to boost bilateral relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France and concurrently to Spain Pavel Latushko said during the Belarusian-Spanish business forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
"We have no diplomatic presence in Spain. We do not have an embassy in the country. But these days the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus is exploring the opening of our embassy in Spain which will become an important stimulus for strengthening the Belarusian-Spanish cooperation," said Pavel Latushko.
"First of all, it is important for us to create a legal framework of cooperation and we are very close to signing an intergovernmental agreement with Spain on cooperation in economy and industry. We are planning to sign a memorandum on cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. We are also set to ink an agreement on standardization and certification of goods which are delivered to the Belarusian and Spanish markets. All this will create the appropriate framework for enhancing bilateral relations,” said the diplomat.
Attending the first Belarusian-Spanish business forum are representatives of more than 20 Spanish companies of Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Marbella and other Spanish cities working in the food and processing industry, industry and construction, information technology, legal and educational services.
The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold a business matchmaking event for the businessmen of the two countries. The Spanish partners will visit the Belarusian enterprises, will hold talks in the ministries, concerns, local self-governments, and will be briefed on the export and investment opportunities of Belarus.
The results of the forum will be discussed during the next round of the Belarusian-Spanish ministerial consultations due in Minsk in the first half of 2015.
