MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna took part in a ministerial roundtable of the 60th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which is underway these days at the UN Headquarters, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Belarusian diplomat briefed the participants on the national measures Belarus takes to promote women’s rights as well as the position of the government on the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development with respect to gender equality.
Alena Kupchyna stressed that gender equality is an important factor for consistent and sustainable development of any society and drew attention to the necessity of providing sufficient financing to the relevant international programs. In this respect, the deputy minister urged the international organizations to increase assistance to countries through the implementation of local international technical assistance on gender issues. Alena Kupchyna called on UN Women, the main UN structure on women’s rights, to increase its engagement in this work.
Alena Kupchyna attached special attention to the role of the family and traditional values as an important factor of sustainable development. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the support of the natural family should become one of the principal activities in the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
