Kupchyna: Belarus in favor of mutually beneficial relations between EU and EEU

PORTOROZ, 19 November (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in building up the most beneficial relations between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna said when speaking at an international business conference in Portoroz on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

She highlighted the fact that Belarus has great investment opportunities which European partners must take advantage of. In her view, these advantages have become stronger with the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) with a 180-million strong market.

Alena Kupchyna also stressed that Belarus conducts a balanced foreign policy forging constructive cooperation with all countries. This cooperation is based primarily on pragmatism and interest in mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that Belarus makes a worthy contribution to security by maintaining stability in the country, the region. Well known is the role of Belarus in promoting the Ukrainian settlement which is welcomed by all peace-loving countries in the world.

A nearly one-hour speech by Alena Kupchyna aroused huge interest. The conference participants asked many questions concerning both development of Belarus and the country’s views on international events, the country’s development prospects. "Evolution is the only possible path of development for Belarus. There is no other way," said Alena Kupchyna. She noted the importance of the fact that Belarus will remain committed to peaceful policy.

The 17th annual international business conference in the Slovenian Portoroz is the largest economic forum in Slovenia and the region. The event focuses on the economic cooperation between the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Every year the conference is attended by more than 400 representatives of big business and economic elites of the region.

This year one of the themes of the business conference was dedicated to Belarus. It was called "Belarus in the beginning of the century: a blank spot on the map of Europe, or the model of political, economic and social survival of the nation sandwiched between two global players.”
