VITEBSK, 14 July (BelTA) - The International Festival of Arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk has turned into an international cultural forum, and is becoming more prestigious, chairperson of the organizing committee of the festival, Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Kochanova said at a press conference dedicated to the opening of the 25th edition of the festival, BelTA has learned.
“The 25th edition of the festival is held in the year when we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the independence of our country. This year has been also declared the Year of Culture in Belarus. Thanks to the personal support of the Belarusian President, the festival has turned into an international cultural forum. Its authority has been growing, as evidenced by the growing number of participating countries. This year, there will 45 of them,” Natalia Kochanova noted.
Natalia Kochanova said that the Presidents of Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria sent greetings to the festival. “It is very important for us,” she said. According to her, 500 journalists from 10 countries have been accredited.
This year artists and performing groups paraded through the central street of Vitebsk. The start to another new tradition namely the flag-raising ceremony of the festival was given at 12:30. “The program of the festival is very busy. The Summer Amphitheatre will host 18 concert programs. We expect a record number of viewers,” Belarus’ Vice Premier noted.
