Kochanova: People's diplomacy is a tool to develop relations between countries

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – People's diplomacy helps develop relations between the countries, Chairperson of Council of Republic Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting to discuss the preparations for the second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum, BelTA has learned.

"We have a good experience of holding the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The interest is immense. The president has said many times that people's diplomacy, sister cities, agreements between entrepreneurs,  enterprises give sometimes a greater result. Entrepreneurs meet, build their relations, work and do business. Eventually it is beneficial for our countries. Therefore, it is something we need to promote," Natalya Kochanova said.

She emphasized that the first joint business forum of Belarus and Uzbekistan, held in Minsk in September 2023, was recognized successful, based on the number and amount of contracts signed. The second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum will be held in Tashkent on 26-27 August.

"On our part we must do our best and help our hosts to deliver a high-quality event. The forum should yield an economic effect for our country. When developing cooperation with other countries we must proceed from the national interests. Cooperation should be mutually beneficial. The president highlighted this during the recent meeting on international issues," Natalya Kochanova noted.

According to her, Belarus and Uzbekistan seek closer ties. "Uzbekistan has interest in promoting relations with our country. We need to work efficiently. Therefore, we need to make the sections [of the forum] interesting and useful," she added.
