MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarus values its relations with Great China, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said at a round table meeting on youth policy of Belarus and China, BelTA reports.
“Belarus values and is proud of its relations with Great China, which, thanks to the friendship between President of the Republic of Belarus, highly respected Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko, and President of the People’s Republic of China, highly respected Xi Jinping, have reached the level of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership,” said Natalya Kochanova.
In 2022 Belarus and China celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the speaker recalled. She quoted Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko who said the following during his state visit to Beijing in March 2023: “If China is strong, Belarus will be strong and will develop.”
Natalya Kochanova is confident that the all-weather nature of bilateral contacts helps further the idea of the community of common interests and the community of common destiny proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Natalya Kochanova thanked Vice Chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shen Yueyue for her personal contribution to promoting Belarus-China partnership and for supporting the proposals of the Council of the Republic to strengthen cooperation across the board.
The speaker added that the parliaments of Belarus and China recently signed an inter-parliamentary cooperation agreement that provides for the creation of a high-level committee on cooperation between legislative bodies of the two countries. “We thank our Chinese counterparts for their contribution to drafting the agreement, as well as for setting up a Belarus-China working group in the new convocation of the Chinese parliament and for selecting Chinese members for the the high-level committee,” she said.
The speaker noted that the Belarusian part of the committee will be formed after the parliamentary elections that will be held in February 2024.
Natalya Kochanova also commented on interaction between women’s organizations of Belarus and China. The speaker recalled that an online seminar of women parliamentarians from Belarus and China was successfully held last spring. The participants of the event discussed a wide range of issues relating to the role of women parliamentarians in public administration, economic and social development, protection of the rights and interests of women. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Belarusian Women’s Union and the All China Women’s Federation. In November, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Women’s Union and the Shanghai Women’s Federation. The Belarusian side continues to work on issues that will further strengthen cooperation between women of the two countries.
