MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) - Belarus has consistently confirmed its status as a peace-loving state, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said at the meeting of the CSTO PA Council in Minsk on 18 May, BelTA has learned.
Long before the conflict in Ukraine, at international conferences in Minsk on security issues Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly stressed the paramount importance of peace to the sustainable development of any country, called on the international community to dialogue, confidence-building and cooperation. “At that time, these words of the Belarusian leader might have seemed commonplace and self-evident to some. But now, there comes a general awareness of their depth and enduring meaning. Belarus has consistently confirmed its status of a peace-loving state, even despite unfriendly actions by individual politicians. Our principles are mutual support in the fight against modern challenges, responsibility, good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and de-escalation of conflicts,” Natalya Kochanova said.
In her words, peacefulness is an inherent feature of the Belarusian people. “The people, who with dignity, courage and honor endured the worst hardships and horrors of wars, repeatedly unleashed on the Belarusian land, not by us and not by our will. The people who despite all the cruelest trials of fate did not fall to their knees, did not become embittered, did not turn from the true path, but on the contrary - continued to show humanity, compassion and kindness to the world. The motto of the current presidency of Belarus in the CSTO, “Through solidarity and cooperation to peace and security”, is another vivid confirmation of this. We categorically reject any attempt to besmirch the peace-loving image of the Belarusian nation,” the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic said.
