MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian authorities are doing their best to preserve and strengthen the country’s independence, Professor at the University of Redford (Virginia, United States) Grigory Ioffe said in an interview with the Belarus One TV channel on 4 May, BelTA has learned.
“It appears to me that Belarus and its authorities do their utmost to preserve and strengthen the country’s independence. If this trend is extrapolated to the future, I think everything will be alright,” the Professor noted.
Speaking about the forthcoming elections to the Belarusian parliament, Grigory Ioffe assumed that the parliamentary election campaign would be calm and peaceful. In his words, it will be the elections “with the minimal influence” from the outside due to the lack of support to the opposition from other states. “The impression is that these elections will be a totally internal event for Belarus. It should be so as you choose the parliament for yourselves,” he stressed. Grigory Ioffe also emphasized a low rating of the Belarusian opposition.
