MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – The book Traditions of Sovereign Belarus is a rather convincing visual presentation of contemporary history of Belarus, Information Minister Aleksandr Karlyukevich told BelTA.
“The texts and photographs in the book celebrate the diversity of traditions that emerged in Belarus in the past quarter of the century. It is a wide reaching survey of the country’s political, social and cultural events that have become a tradition. I believe that this book is not only about politics, social life and journalism, but also about each and every of us,” Aleksandr Karlyukevich said.
He is convinced that the publication will be of interest to a great number of audiences. “This book chronicles the history of independent Belarus and highlights the most remarkable events of the period we have been witnessing. This book will also be of interest to generations to come,” the minister said.
The book was published with support of the Information Ministry. It features 400 photos depicting the most important events of the Belarusian calender, as well as presidential initiatives that have turned into traditions. These traditions have shaped the Belarusian cultural scene and become part and parcel of our life. They demonstrate the power of national unity and make us proud of our native land. These traditions have become a national brand abroad and a destination in themselves. Among these traditions are Independence Day and Victory Day celebrations, the International Christmas Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament for the Prize of the President of Belarus and the national junior ice hockey competition Golden Puck, and the Alexandria Gathers Friends festival.
The presentation of the book Traditions of Sovereign Belarus will take place at the 27th Minsk International Book Fair on 7 February.
