MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Relations between Spain and Belarus grow stronger day by day, Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ignacio Ybanez Rubio said in an interview to the Stolichnoye Televidenie TV channel.
“The image of Belarus is positive in Spain. I think that the relations between our countries in different areas grow stronger day by day. I hope that the image of Spain is also positive in your country. I am confident that we will continue expanding the bilateral relations. Belarus’ new embassy in Spain and, very soon, the Spanish embassy in Belarus, will promote our friendship,” said Ignacio Ybanez Rubio. He expressed hope that the Embassy of Spain in Belarus will be opened in the near future.
The diplomat stressed that the relations between the two countries should be viewed holistically. “There are no just political or purely economic constituents. Everything is interlinked. The fact that Belarus opens its embassy in Madrid is a positive signal for establishing political relations in the first place. We will also work on strengthening our economic relations as well,” Ignacio Ybanez Rubio added.
Touching on the international politics, the diplomat noted the important role of Belarus in promoting the settlement in Ukraine. “We appreciate the efforts that Belarus has made to achieve the things that we all want in Europe - more dialogue and less confrontation. The situation which has arisen in Ukraine has destabilised the situation in Europe as a whole. This is why Belarus’ efforts are an example for the European Union, for all of us,” the official said.
As BelTA reported earlier, the Belarusian Embassy in Spain was officially opened in Madrid on 16 December.
