MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill described his meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 15 October as symphonic interaction, BelTA has learned.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church said: “Today we’ve talked about many things: about things concerning our countries and nations, about our church, and about the international situation. I can say with deep satisfaction that there was not simply a high level of agreement. The sides agreed on the most important matters.”
In his words, the church cannot think differently from the ways people think. “The church has to be a mentor but at the same time its actions are based on people’s hopes, on how people understand what is going on in the world. Any wise government acts in the same manner. When the stance of the church and the stance of the government coincide, we can describe it as a harmony, as symphonic interaction of the church and the state,” noted Patriarch Kirill.
“The lengthy talk between the patriarch of the church and the president of the Republic of Belarus before our meeting today can be fittingly described as symphonic interaction. I think this interaction was beneficial for both sides,” added Patriarch Kirill.
