MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – The OSCE and Belarus have established great cooperation in many areas, Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, OSCE Special Coordinator for the parliamentary elections in Belarus Kent Harstedt said at a meeting with Belarusian MPs in Minsk on 22 December.
The meeting highlighted the OSCE report on Belarus’ parliamentary elections 2016 and its recommendations. Kent Harstedt took note of “the great cooperation with Belarus in many areas besides the election process.” One of such projects pertains to the Belarusian parliament, especially in part of the work with female MPs.
Speaking about the elections and possible amendments to the election law, Kent Harstedt said that the OSCE is ready to offer its expertise to Belarus. The parties shared views on the OSCE’s efforts to improve the election legislation. Chairman of the House of Representatives’ permanent commission on state construction, local self-government and regulations Leonid Tsuprik answered the questions of the PA and OSCE/ODIHR delegation.
