MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Serbia highly appreciates Belarus’ role in settling the Ukrainian conflict, BelTA learned from President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic on 9 June.
“Serbia highly appreciates the role and stance of Belarus. We believe that the Minsk agreements have been signed thanks to efforts of Belarus and President Alexander Lukashenko in particular. Today we talked with the Belarus President about it, too. We spoke about the conflict that has once again grown large and about Belarus’ continued efforts to resolve the conflict. The need to arrange a meeting of the presidents of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine for the sake of their trying to find a better solution for all the parties through direct dialogue was mentioned,” said Maja Gojkovic.
She also reminded that Serbia now presides over the OSCE. In her words, Belarus and Serbia cooperate well within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. “The memorandum we have signed today envisages exchange of information about the work of our representatives. We are also expected to support each other during voting when candidates for certain positions are elected,” she noted. The head of the Serbian parliament noted that the sides will come to terms regarding all the issues of mutual interest raised in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The head of the Serbian parliament made a comment regarding Serbia’s intention to appoint its own representative as the OSCE presiding country instead of Heidi Tagliavini, who is no longer part of the trilateral group on Ukraine. Serbia has not officially discussed sending its own representative yet, stated Maja Gojkovic.
