BERLIN, 21 September (BelTA) – Germany will continue the policy of rapprochement with Belarus, Andreas Peschke, Director for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Foreign Ministry, told Belarusian journalists, BelTA has learned.
The diplomat said that the German side will be intensifying, step by step, the cooperation with Belarus in many fields, including economy and culture. "We expect this policy to be continued after the Bundestag elections," Andreas Peschke said.
He also noted that the Belarusian five-day visa-free program is a good practice.
When asked about the German position on further liberalization of Belarus-EU visa regime, Andreas Peschke said: "The matter is under discussion within the EU, and there are different opinions.” "We are in favor of the dialogue on the topic,” he said. The first steps in this direction were already taken, Andreas Peschke noted.
