MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Germany is interested in bringing the European Union and Belarus closer to each other. German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth made the statement after negotiations with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 13 March, BelTA has learned.
Michael Roth said: “My country is strongly interested in the rapprochement of the European Union and Germany on one side and Belarus on the other side. We would like to accelerate the process. The European Union should bear its responsibility for peace, stability, and democracy in entire Europe. And Belarus is one of the central countries in Eastern Europe. We have a huge number of global and international crises. They can be resolved, provided all of us work together.”
The German Minister of State for Europe remarked that in the last few years the countries have managed to accomplish a lot to advance the bilateral cooperation. However, close and friendly relations between citizens of Belarus and Germany are more important than trustful contacts between the governments and politicians. In his opinion, a lot has yet to be done in this sphere.
“When I look at what has been achieved in the last few years, I feel optimism. We are now close to politics based on and aimed at cooperation,” pointed out Michael Roth.
