German Ambassador counts on closer cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Wolfram Maas counts on the enhancement of cooperation with Belarus. He made the statement at the event timed to the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of Belarus-Germany diplomatic relations held in the House of Friendship on 12 March, BelTA has learned.

According to the Ambassador, the history of Belarus-Germany relations counts more than 90 years. In 1992 diplomatic relations were resumed. Germany was among the first countries to officially acknowledge Belarus’ independence and open the embassy in Minsk. The anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is a good opportunity to recall the past, “but it is important to be focused on the future,” the diplomat believes.

“As for the dynamics of bilateral relations, I had higher expectations. But the relations between the countries have never been an easy process. There main thing is that we see progress in bilateral cooperation,” Wolfram Maas said.

In his opinion, the interaction between the two nations and countries has become better than it was two years ago. “It is not my achievement, it is attributed to the fact that the attention to Belarus is increasing. I am always trying to do my best to improve approaches in bilateral relations. And I believe that we will step up efforts to intensify relations between our states,” the German Ambassador said.
