Friendly relations with Belarus seen as important for Kyrgyzstan

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) -  Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with Belarus on the basis of mutual trust and dialogue, Dastanbek Djumabekov, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic, said as he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko in Bishkek on 19 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The parties discussed the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in parliamentary and other domains. “Kyrgyzstan attaches particular importance to the development of friendly relations with Belarus on the basis of mutual trust and dialogue. There is interest in further development of relations,” Dastanbek Djumabekov said.

All necessary prerequisites are in place. Among them, according to the speaker, is the Year of Regional Development and Digitalization in Kyrgyzstan, high demand for Belarusian-made products, from food to machinery goods.

Vladimir Andreichenko confirmed the interest and commitment to promoting cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. He suggested paying more attention to cooperation in education and medicine. “The parties highlighted the importance of boosting trade and also industry-wise cooperation with an aim to producing and promoting jointly made products, both domestically and also in the markets of third countries, first and foremost, the countries of the Eurasian Economic Committee,” the press service of the House of Representatives said.

The Belarusian speaker spoke in favor of strengthening the legal framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation and suggested signing an agreement between the two legislative bodies.

Vladamir Andreichenko expressed the hope that his Kyrgyz counterpart will visit Belarus this year on an official visit, thus responding to the invitation that has already been sent. The parties will identify specific activities to fully realize the potential of bilateral cooperation, taking into account the groundwork at the interstate, inter-regional and inter-institutional levels.

Vladimir Andreichenko also held a bilateral meeting with Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin. The speakers hailed active dialogue, close and trust-based relations between the two states and parliaments. The parties stressed that the two heads of state had made the biggest contribution to a high level of bilateral cooperation.

The parties also talked over the preparations for the presidential election in Kazakhstan which is slated for 9 June and its observation as part of the corresponding missions of inter-parliamentary organizations. Vladimir Andreichenko and Nurlan Nigmatulin discussed the agenda of the OSCE PA annual session which is to consider Belarus’ draft resolution on bolstering cooperation in technological forecasting. The parties also talked over the forthcoming meeting of the speakers of the Eurasian parliaments in September. The meeting is prepared by the parliament of Kazakhstan.

“The parties discussed ways of stepping up trade and economic cooperation, interaction between the companies of the two countries, strengthening intercultural ties between Belarus and Kazakhstan,” said the press service of the House of Representatives.

After the meeting Nurlan Nigmatulin expressed confidence that the task set forth by the presidents of the two countries to reach $1 billion in mutual trade is achievable. In his words, the parliament of Kazakhstan will provide all possible assistance to address this and other important issues related to bilateral cooperation with Belarus.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko is on a visit to Kyrgyzstan. He is expected to attend a meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council which is due in Bishkek on 20 May.
