FM: UN resolution on Ukraine contains groundless, politicized accusations against Belarus

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) - The resolution of the UN General Assembly on the situation in Ukraine does not bring the settlement of the conflict closer but strengthens the gap between the parties involved, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with China Central Television, BelTA has learned.

"The resolution calls for compliance by all parties with the Minsk agreements, although it is well known that one of the parties unequivocally chose to ignore these agreements," the minister said. "Neither the UN Security Council, nor the UN General Assembly, nor other UN structural units were concerned about this for the past 6 to 7 years since the Minsk agreements were concluded."

As for Belarus, the resolution contains absolutely groundless, far-fetched, politicized accusations against Belarus, Vladimir Makei stated. "The positive role of Belarus related, among other things, to the organization of the work of the trilateral contact group, was ignored. So was the role of Belarus related to the development of comprehensive cooperation with our southern neighbor," he said.

"For us, this resolution was unequivocally unacceptable, because we are deeply convinced that it does not bring the settlement of the current conflict any closer, but on the contrary, further strengthens the gap between the parties involved," the minister stressed.
