MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Switzerland's initiative to hold a peace summit on Ukraine without the participation of Belarus and Russia has no prospects, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said in an interview with RIA Novosti, BelTA has learned.
The minister dismissed as futile the initiatives made by Switzerland to convene a peace conference on Ukraine without Russia's participation. “This initiative has no prospects, no real diplomatic sense. It would be simply impossible to reach any specific agreements within the framework of this summit,” Sergei Aleinik said.
He added that Belarus had not yet received an invitation to the conference either. “We proceed from the fact that any peaceful settlement of the conflict and any discussion of European and Eurasian security issues without the participation of both Russia and Belarus are absolutely futile,” the minister of foreign affairs said.
