MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – One of Belarus’ foreign policy priorities in 2020 was defending and strengthening the national sovereignty, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he spoke at the board meeting of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 25 February to review the performance of the diplomatic service in 2020. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA has learned.
“In the turbulent year of 2020, Belarus invested tremendous efforts in defending and strengthening its sovereignty on the international arena, in preventing Belarus from becoming a bargaining chip on the geopolitical chessboard, if we put it using the words of a famous American political analyst,” Vladimir Makei said.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintained a continuous focus on ensuring multi-vector interaction and favorable conditions for promoting the country's foreign economic interests, facilitating integration processes in the Eurasian space, primarily as part of the Belarusian chairmanship in the EAEU, as well as promoting Belarus’ unifying initiatives in the international arena.
“Other important areas of work included raising international technical aid and foreign gratuitous aid to build up the capacities of Belarusian healthcare institutions to fight the pandemic, and to help Belarusian citizens who got in a difficult situation abroad,” the foreign minister said.
