MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – The voice of Belarus has been heard in the UN since the establishment of the organization and is still heard today, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told the media, BelTA has learned.
During the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Belarusian delegation took part in many events, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik held a large number of bilateral meetings.
Belarus put forward its position on strengthening international peace and security, and promote the initiative to set up a global platform for dialogue. During his speeches, Sergei Aleinik paid special attention to the issues of sustainable development, the impact of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and food security. Representatives of Belarus also suggested initiatives on combating trafficking in human beings, banning the development and production of new weapons of mass destruction.
“Many countries with whom we held bilateral contacts and meetings have been very positive about our initiatives and our approaches to solving global problems,” the minister emphasized. “The voice of Belarus has been heard on the UN platform since the establishment of this organization and is still heard today.”
A meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Four declarations were adopted as a result of the meeting. The documents condemn the use of unilateral coercive measures in international politics, raise the issues of food security and call on the Western countries to stop using neocolonial practices against developing states and the countries of the Global South.
