MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Belarus' application to upgrade its status at BRICS is taken very seriously by the organization, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said at an expanded-participation session of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod on 11 June, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Aleinik noted that this is the first time Belarus is participating in the foreign ministers' meeting within the framework of the BRICS Plus dialogues. According to him, this shows trust on the part of partners and their serious attitude towards Belarus' application to upgrade its status at BRICS.
“Today, the world increasingly needs platforms that reject confrontation, but work to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of equal and respectful dialogue between sovereign states,” the foreign minister said.
“We highly appreciate this opportunity to exchange views on current issues and thrash out the path towards global security and sustainable development. The sustainable development of any state, region and the world as a whole is based on two pillars - security and a sound economy. Today these matters need utmost attention,” emphasized Sergei Aleinik.
