MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - Belarus has always advocated dialogue and peaceful solutions to issues, and has always opposed the escalation of tensions, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a press conference in Minsk on 16 February, BelTA has learned.
“We have always favored dialogue and peaceful solutions and have always been against the escalation of tensions,” the minister said. According to him, the main problem today is that, unfortunately, there are not enough politicians to adequately assess the situation and be able to stop exacerbating tensions and military hysteria. The sooner everyone understands the need to move away from the division into “us” and “them”, the sooner we will be able to work out proposals in the interests of security of the European region and the world in general.
According to Vladimir Makei, Belarus has always pursued a peace-loving policy and has repeatedly stated that there will never be a threat to other countries from its territory. At the same time the country is ready to repel any aggression, no matter where it comes from. The country will continue strengthening military and technical cooperation with Russia as part of the Union State, and will also continue cooperation within the CSTO.
“Considering the irrational policy of NATO and some western partners, we must keep our powder dry. Belarus, as a medium-sized state, will not be able to withstand possible aggressive actions of the Western partners on its own. Therefore, we see the need to develop close military and technical cooperation within the Union State and the CSTO,” the minister stressed.
