Expert: Belarusian diaspora actively promotes national culture abroad

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian diaspora actively promotes national culture abroad, Director of the Belarusian Center of National Cultures Olga Antonenko told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian Center of National Cultures hosts creative training courses twice a year. They bring together our compatriots from different countries of the world. Let me give an example of interaction with the Belarusian diaspora from the Russian Federation. Last year our training courses were attended by our compatriots from Nalchik, Petrozavodsk, Irkutsk, Volgograd, Saint Petersburg, Samara, Tomsk, Syktyvkar, Ufa, Omsk, Chelyabinsk and other Russian cities. We are always glad to welcome our compatriots who pay great attention to preservation, development and popularization of Belarusian culture abroad,” Olga Antonenko said.

“There is a big Belarusian diaspora in Irkutsk Oblast and in the city of Irkutsk, and they actively preserve and popularize Belarusian culture. They come to Belarus for trainings. This year we are pleased to invite everyone to take part in the 4th Arts Festival of Belarusians of the World, which will be running in Minsk from 19 to 24 September. Of course, its program will include trips to the Belarusian regions. The Samara Oblast Public Organization “Russian-Belarusian Brotherhood 2000” hosts an international drawings contest “Two Sisters – Belarus and Russia” to mark the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. The Cultural and educational association of Belarusians in Jordan plans to hold a course of lectures and joint events with the Russian House on 9 May. The Regional National and Cultural Autonomy of the Belarusians of Omsk Oblast “Busly” [Storks] is expected to host a solemn event in Omsk on 2 April. I am sure that on 9 May almost all of our compatriots and public associations of the Belarusians in the Russian Federation will be traditionally congratulating war veterans on this wonderful holiday - Victory Day. Taganrog will host a festival, When We Are United, We Are Undefeatable,” she stressed.

“That is what our cultural ties are all about. No idea goes unnoticed and there is always support. We hold a lot of joint activities and events,” Olga Antonenko added.
