MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) - Belarus has called on the European Union to take all possible measures to influence the Ukrainian authorities in order to prevent airspace violations, as it happened on 9 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As BelTA has reported earlier, on 9 August the Belarusian airspace was violated by Ukrainian drones, which were shot down by the Belarusian air defense forces. EU Charge d'Affaires Steen Noerlov has been invited to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as some of the drone elements had labels of EU manufacturers.
According to the Belarusian side, such actions have the potential for a radical escalation of the military conflict and its expansion to the EU countries as well.
“Belarus, which has always been in favor of a peaceful settlement of the crisis by negotiations, calls on the European Union to take all possible measures to influence the Ukrainian authorities in order to prevent such actions in the future,” the ministry said.
