MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – The current visit to Minsk is a turning point in Belarusian-Turkish relations. Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the statement after negotiations with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on 11 November, BelTA has learned.
Summing up results of his visit to Minsk, the Turkish head of state described the top-level negotiations as productive. “The meeting was very important and very effective,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “Nine bilateral documents on various areas of cooperation were signed as a result of the talks with Alexander Lukashenko. Apart from that, our relations in various areas were evaluated.”
The Turkey President drew attention to the goal of raising Belarus-Turkey trade to $1 billion. “We will definitely be able to do it,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan was convinced.
The Turkey President went on saying that apart from new avenues of cooperation, which development had been determined for the near future, it was necessary to pay close attention and step up contacts in finance and banking so much as to be able to trade using national currencies.
Apart from that, the Turkish leader described the next session of the Belarusian-Turkish intergovernmental commission on trade and economic affairs as important. The session is scheduled to take place in early 2017. The session is supposed to flesh out the arrangements secured in Minsk at the top level.
